The Five Most Expensive Cars Sold at Auction

If you’ve ever gone to a car auction then you understand how exciting it can be to look at all of the different vehicles that made it to the event.  Car lovers worldwide know that an auction is one of the surest ways to find a car that is in perfect condition to sell.  Over the years, many expensive cars have been sold at car auctions across the country.  At JD’s Auto Repair, we like to consider some of the more expensive models and share the information with our customers.

Some of the most alluring, luxurious automobiles have visited auction showgrounds to give people the chance to admire them in their glory.  It’s hard to imagine the massive amounts of money being spent on these cars at auction, but every year another lucky individual drives away in the car of his dreams.  The following are five of the most expensive cars ever sold at auction.

A 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder was sold at auction for $6 million to a radio disc jockey named Chris Evans.  It might seem hard to believe, but it’s true. This amazing vehicle was sold at RM Auctions in Maranello, Italy.  This car used to belong to actor James Coburn who was known for his appearance in the Mel Gibson movie “Maverick.”

Another Ferrari hit the most expensive in the auction list, as well.  The Ferrari Testarossa has an alluring racing appeal.  This particular Ferrari had been known as the most expensive for two years.  It sold for an unbelievable $16.39 million at Gooding & Company.  This auction was held in Monterey, California.  At JD’s Auto Repair, we enjoy sharing our knowledge with all of our customers.  When it comes to auctions, we know that they can be incredible ways to learn more about vehicles.  JD’s Auto Repair has a passion for the car industry, and it shows.

The NART Spyder sold for $27.5 million.  At this incredible price, you can only imagine how amazing of a car it was considered.  After a wild bidding session, it sold for this price supposedly because of its rarity.  It sold at Bonhams’s 20th Anniversary “Festival of Speed” Auction in 2013.  The auction took place in England.  Other amazing vehicles that sold for high price tags at auction include the Ferrari 250 TO that sold for $38,115,000 at Bonhams’s Quail Auction, and a Mercedes-Benz W196R race car that sold for a whopping $31 million.
