“CfiadoMe Rae” is a tribute to Carroll Shelby’s 1968 EXP 500 “Green Hornet” and his 1967 EXP 500 “Little Red™. These prototypes are considered two of Carroll Shelby’s most iconic Cobra Mustangs. Unlike other Cobra GT’s both of these vehicles were “One of One” Experimental (EXP) in their model years. As an original 1968 GT, Charlotte Rae is a Tribute to Idle “Green Hornet” with the exception of the 428 Cobra Jet engine and a few other minor varianoes. The Tribute to “Little Red” comes in the form of Charlotte’s iconic Black Vinal Top over a Candy Apple Red Pearl body giving her the looks of “Little Red” with the heart of the “Green Hornet”. Chañotte touts herself as the “Green Hornet” and “Little Reds” lost little sister. Unlike her bigger siblings, Charlotte Rae is currently powered by a balanced 302 V8 (J Code) engine fueled by a Holley 650 CFM Carburetor producing an estimated 230+ Horsepower, Delux Shelby Interior includes all options available in the Green Hornet to include the Power Front Windows, Cobra Suspension Upgrades and an Upgraded C4 Trans”mission with Shift Kit powering a 3-50 Limited Slip Rear and Flowrnaster Duel 40 Delta Exhausts.
Why would anyone attempt a recreation of these Mo iconic vehicles as a 350 EXP? N‹› one knows. It may be Charlie Ray’s way of paying tribute the greatness of Carroll Shelby and that special beauty found only in the Green Hornet and Little Red. In 1968 Charlie attained the honor of becoming a United States Marine. After 21 years, Charlie finally retired and had the time in 2002 to create Charlotte Rae.
People in the 60s were preoccupied with life and the confusion of the times. But not all of the 60s was so complicated. The sounds of Bob Segar, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendñx, The Doors, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, The Cream, Jefferson Airplane, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, Janis Joplin, Steppenwolf, Linda Ronstadt and Peter Paul & Mary were all making music history. America also experienced the marvels of Woodstock, The Monterey Pop Festival, The Beatles and Rolling Stones Tours. In our free time we watched the classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Easy Rider, Bullitt and least we forget ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”. Yep, no one knows why Charlie did it, but he did. So, everyone may as well sit back, re]ax, reminisce and enjoy just a small sampling of the sixties in what is the beauty of “Charlotte Rae” and the genius of Carroll Shelby.
