Fuel System Services
The purpose of the fuel system is to store fuel and deliver fuel to the cylinder chamber where it can be vaporized, mixed with air and finally burned to produce power. The fuel system consists of the fuel tank (gas tank), fuel lines, fuel pump or pumps, fuel filter, carburetor or fuel injectors and the combustion chamber. The fuel can either be gasoline, diesel, biodiesel or a blend of ethanol and gasoline. Every time a vehicle’s driver presses the gas pedal, they are controlling how much fuel and air the engine takes in. The pedal tells the throttle valve how much air to let in and the computer tells the fuel system how much fuel to deliver. These calculated amounts of air and fuel are typically mixed together before being sucked into the combustion chamber of an engine cylinder. There the spark plug ignites the mixture, producing the controlled burn that powers the vehicle. It’s important for the fuel in the vehicle to be as clean as possible.

Why is it important?
To keep your vehicle operating at its peak, the fuel system must be maintained through periodic preventative maintenance. The fuel filter is one item in the system that needs to be replaced periodically as recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. The fuel filter is designed to trap tiny particles in the fuel supply and prevent them from entering the more delicate parts of the system such as the fuel pump, carburetor or injectors. When these particles build up in the fuel filter, they prevent the proper delivery of fuel and the filter should be replaced. Another cause for poor engine performance can be traced back to fuel system cleanliness. The fuel delivery system can be affected by gradual fuel varnish buildup, gumming and other harmful deposits. This can lead to sticking parts, slow response times, or fuel injectors misfiring – resulting in poor engine performance like rough idle, engine knocks and pings and harmful emissions.
